In 2016, Syed Irfan was asked to help an almost 20 years established non-profit in Toronto with boosting donations. Whilst talking to the organisation, he realised there was no strategy for fundraising, nor was there a clear direction. Further, the organisation was setting goals without identifying their strengths and weaknesses. He helped them develop a strategy, articulate a clear target, and implement what they had put together.
This was not the end of Syed’s forays into fundraising. In 2019, his services were requested again, this time by a religious organisation with similar issues. Again, Syed helped them ideate and utilise a focused strategy.
With a second project of this nature under his belt, Syed realised the clear need for non-profit and religious organisations to better, more holistically plan their affairs to ensure donations.
When he was approached by yet another religious organisation lacking funds in late 2021, he was unsurprised to find the above pattern repeating itself.
Canada’s Muslim immigrant population is projected to reach 2.7 million by 2030. With a large Ummah will undoubtedly come greater need for better masjids. Thus, Syed Irfan started Masjid Fundraising, aiming specifically to help masajids and non-profit organisations be the best they can be for the communities they serve.

Who We Are
Syed Irfan is passionate about helping organisations grow. He is a finance expert and marketing strategist, and the founder of masjidfundraising.com. He has been engaged with the non-profit sector since 2008, when he helped his local masjid in London, UK with fundraising.
Prior to starting Masjid Fundraising as founder and CEO, he has also advised entrepreneurs and owners across the globe in a wide range of industries over the last 30 years. The industries he has worked in include FMCG, food, logistics, manufacturing, non-for-profit, PR, shipping, and technology.
He has worked as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for large multinational companies, having lived and worked in ten countries across five continents. He has also founded three companies, two of which were based in the UK. These businesses’ sectors range from digital marketing to fintech.
Syed is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He earned his MBA at Richard Ivey Business School in Canada, and also holds a license for investment advice from the Canadian Security Institute. Syed also shares his thoughts on business practices with his articles on LinkedIn.
Dr. Yasser Aboutaha is a Graduate of Dentistry, with vast experience in project management, mentoring and life coaching, international marketing, and public speaking. Dr. Yasser is also one of the founders of Masjid Fundraising.
Dr. Yasser’s mission is to use all his education & expertise to help Masajid and not-for-profit organisations reach their financial goals with efficiency and ease.
For masajids, Dr. Yasser specialises in fundraising, event management, Islamic lectures, marriage counselling, youth programs, outdoor activities, and family gatherings. Since 2009, he has helped many masjids in Canada.
